“He’s like a different person”- Brighton star says he has noticed change in Chelsea’s Levi Colwill

Chelsea star Levi Colwill has received a lot of praise from former Brighton teammate Lewis Dunk

Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill received praise from former Brighton teammate Lewis Dunk after the 21-year-old finally made his much-awaited debut in England’s 1-0 win over Australia.

Colwill and Dunk are national teammates, and both partnered in defence at the heart of the Three Lions games against Australia. Not only for England but also at Brighton, where Colwill was on loan at the Seagulls for the entire last season.

At Brighton, Colwill was nurtured into a very good defender and has been a key player under Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. He has started all eight Premier League matches so far.

Lewis Dunk claims Colwill's emergence into an elite centre-back has been rapid.

However, after Ben Chilwell’s injury, the youngster primarily plays left back and has adapted without any troubles, but Pochettino could tweak his formation once the entire Chelsea squad is fit.

Colwill has been fundamental for us and has earned glowing praise for his former club teammate Dunk. Speaking on Colwill’s emergence as England’s centre-back, (h/t Evening Standard) he said:

“He’s a top person, and I’ve seen him grow up since last year. I tried to help him as much as I could, and he’s grown massively. Coming to the [England] camps now, he’s like a different person. He’s taken on the responsibility at Chelsea, and he’s put on a great performance. I’m sure that won’t be his last England appearance. Left-back, centre-back: He’s got it covered. He’s very versatile.”

Given the club’s terrible performance last season, Chelsea’s choice to loan Levi Colwill out last year was one of the best decisions we made. This assisted Colwill in evolving under Roberto de Zerbi into a complete centre-back, and Dunk, who himself is an experienced defender, assisted the 20-year-old throughout his growth. Given that he is only 20 years old, Colwill will only get better and undoubtedly make a name for himself at the club and international levels.

Colwill’s rise has been rapid, and if he keeps up his stellar performance in the near future, we may anticipate him to soon inherit the captain’s armband.
