English giants Chelsea are looking to sign Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney ahead of the upcoming January transfer window
According to the Guardian (h/t the Daily Mail), Chelsea are preparing to make moves for Napoli ace Victor Osimhen and Brentford star Ivan Toney during the January transfer window as part of their efforts to strengthen their attack.
Mauricio Pochettino led significant changes in the attacking lineup by signing Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Deivid Washington for his first season at Stamford Bridge. However, Nkunku has been sidelined for an extended period due to a serious knee injury. Meanwhile, Jackson has managed to score only one goal in the Premier League for the West London team thus far.
Furthermore, the former Villarreal player has faced criticism for missing several excellent goal-scoring opportunities this season. He will be suspended for Chelsea’s upcoming West London derby against Fulham on Monday. This situation puts the club at risk of going to the game without a regular striker.
Pochettino will have limited options in that position, with only the inexperienced Washington and Armando Broja, who is still recovering from a serious knee injury, being available.
In light of this, the Guardian has stated that the Blues intend to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window by roping in Osimhen and Toney. The English giants were one of the clubs interested in securing Osimhen’s services this summer. However, Napoli successfully held onto the Nigerian striker, who gave his best in the club’s title-winning campaign last season.
Nevertheless, the Nigerian ace’s future with the reigning Serie A champions has recently become uncertain due to a social media controversy. Napoli did not issue a public apology to the player, who recently started and scored in a 4-1 victory over Udinese. However, as of now, Osimhen’s agent has not taken legal action against the Italian champions in response to the incident.
In the case of Brentford’s Toney, he has completed half of his eight-month suspension for multiple betting-related offenses. He has received clearance to rejoin his parent club’s training sessions and is expected to make a competitive return in January.
In our opinion, it seems unlikely that they would get both of these players since a lot may change depending on the conditions in the next few months. No doubt, the club needs more attacking players to help them in this goal-scoring drought.
However, they have already spent a lot of cash this summer, and the club would be careful not to spend another huge sum to grab FFP’s attention.

Neither of these players would come for cheap since they are tied to a contract, and hence, it will be interesting to see how the Blues proceed with their plan. After all, there might be a possibility that they can search for more options depending upon the situation of the transfer market.
