Chelsea star’s international duties end early due to injury

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer sent back from International duty after picking up quad injury

Cole Palmer has now added another worry to Chelsea amidst their injury concerns after the forward was sent back from an England U21 match due to a quad injury.

According to Jordan Davies, the former Manchester City forward will be a part of the Three Lions trip to Slovakia to face Ukraine’s Under-21 side.

Palmer participated in the England U21’s 9-1 pummeling of Serbia but will no longer continue after sustaining an injury, and U21 England manager Lee Carsley has decided not to risk the forward.

Palmer isn’t the only Chelsea player to have been injured; Mykhaylo Mudryk also limped off during Ukraine’s 2-0 victory over North Macedonia, giving the Blues further reasons to panic.

Palmer has been brilliant since joining Chelsea and had a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win over Burnley. Hopefully, he hasn’t picked up a serious injury and will be fit to feature against Arsenal.

Davies later took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and updated on the Palmer injury, (h/t Sun) which said:

“Lee Carsley reveals Cole Palmer will not travel with the #ENG U21s to Slovakia to face Ukraine tomorrow night. He returned to Chelsea after picking up a dead leg in his right quad during the 9-1 victory over Serbia on Thursday. I decided not to risk him.”

International breaks haven’t helped us at all. Because it has a variety of effects on teams, holding national matches in the middle of the season is undoubtedly unfair. The majority of national team players experience injuries, which also have an impact on the club’s momentum if they are in the middle of a winning streak and an unexpected international break interrupts it.

With Noni Madueke and Raheem Sterling as his choices to play on the right, Mauricio Pochettino will now have to wait and see if Palmer’s injury is serious. Madueke has performed admirably for England’s U21 team and may earn an opportunity against Arsenal.
