Chelsea star says he is having to learn ‘everything’ after summer transfer

“Mum was doing my washing at home” – Cole Palmer says he is having to learn new life skills following his move to Chelsea

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has admitted he is getting to grips with all kinds of new life skills, including washing his own clothes, since leaving Manchester City for Chelsea this summer.

The 21-year-old forward completed a £42.5 million deadline-day transfer from City to Chelsea in September. The move has seen Palmer have to adapt quickly to a new environment, both on and off the pitch.

In an interview with the Dailymail, Palmer revealed the many daily tasks he is having to learn after being accustomed to his family’s support in Manchester.

“I’m learning everything: cooking, finding my way around London and even using a washing machine, mum was doing my washing at home.”

Cole Palmer‘s father helped him settle during his initial week in the capital. But since then, the England U21 star has had to become self-sufficient.

From figuring out the subway to mastering his own laundry, it’s been a steep learning curve. However, Palmer maintains the challenges have been worth it, with his form on the field justifying the switch to Chelsea.

‘It has surprised me a bit but I know my own ability, And I knew that if I hit the ground running I’d have a chance and obviously make an impact. That’s why I went there.I thought I could break in. I looked at the squad and there are a lot of players who went, not as many as people would have thought in terms of attackers.”

Palmer has already registered his first Premier League goal for the Blues against Burnley.

He credits manager Mauricio Pochettino for showing faith in him as Chelsea struggled early in the season.

While everyday life skills are taking time to adapt to, Palmer’s talents have transferred to help Chelsea find their groove. After struggling to score initially, Chelsea have now found the back of the net seven times in their last three matches.

The young attacker took a risk in departing Manchester, but the initial signs suggest Palmer made the right call. He is thriving with the Blues, even if he misses his mother handling the laundry. Ultimately, he is helping us a lot and we can be happy about it.
