Chelsea exploring swap deal with Italian club to sign 26-year-old former striker

Chelsea might offer Romelu Lukaku to Roma in exchange for Tammy Abraham

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are considering bringing Tammy Abraham back to Stamford Bridge from AS Roma and in order to do this, they are willing to give Romelu Lukaku to the Italian club on a permanent transfer.

After the Belgian striker returned from Inter Milan, the Blues struggled to find a buyer, and consequently once again loaned the centre-forward to Serie A team AS Roma.

Now the Blues are exploring a swap deal where they can bring Abraham back to the club as they have a £68 million buy-back clause to re-sign the England international.

However, a move in the winter transfer window seems doubtful as Lukaku has been sent on a season-long loan spell, so Chelsea will have to wait for the summer window.

Since joining them, Lukaku has replaced the injured former Blues striker and has been excellent, scoring five goals in seven appearances across all competitions. The West Londoners will be hoping that he sustains his current goal-scoring form, which will convince Giallorossi to sign the striker permanently.

We are better off without inconsistent strikers because we already have Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson, who are striving to make a mark themselves, so signing Abraham doesn’t seem like a good idea given that he is injured. We don’t know when he will return. Additionally, he wasn’t consistent in his second season at Roma.

While Lukaku has been exceptional for Roma, it is unclear how long he will be able to maintain his current level of play given that he often experiences a performance slump in the middle of the campaign. Fortunately, Lukaku and Jose Mourinho have previously worked together, so hopefully the Portuguese coach can assist the former No. 9 of Manchester United in keeping up the levels throughout the season.
