Chelsea watching AS Roma star’s situation closely; swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku could happen

Chelsea are ‘keeping an eye out’ for the return of Tammy Abraham

It’s been quite a few seasons now and one still doesn’t understand why Chelsea let Tammy Abraham leave to Roma. The talented striker had done incredibly well in the opportunities he got at the club but fell out with then-manager Thomas Tuchel.

A Cobham graduate, it was a huge surprise to see the Blues let Abraham leave. It was even more baffling to see them go into the market and sign Romelu Lukaku for a huge fee, only to let him leave for Inter Milan the following summer and now to Roma this summer on loan to replace the injured Abraham.

A thesis can be written about Chelsea’s business with respect to strikers in recent seasons. It has honestly been so poor that one can’t help but wonder if they will ever find someone to break their number nine curse. Looks like they might turn to Abraham again.

Lukaku is on loan at Roma and has been impressing like no one expected him to. He has become a beast of a striker in the Italian capital and Abraham might find it difficult to usurp him once he returns from his long-term injury.

Chelsea are now looking at a way to sell Lukaku to Roma and orchestrate a swap deal that would see Tammy move back to Stamford Bridge, according to Fraser Fletcher (h/t Football. London).

In this way, they might not have to pay an insane amount to sign a player they sold a few years back. However, it is high time the Blues take a serious look at the way they do their business, especially when it comes to their strikers.

Time to bring the boy back home?

Regarding Tammy Abraham though, he is coming off a long-term injury and no one knows how he will return. Everyone hopes he can regain his best levels akin to the one he showed prior to his injury but the Blues need to be wary of signing the 26-year-old.

The only solace that Chelsea can take from the fact that they sold Abraham if they were to resign him is the fact that he got to be coached by Jose Mourinho in Italy and say what you want about him, the former Blues manager is known to instil elite mentality in his players.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea actually orchestrated a swap deal to sign Tammy Abraham. He will be a good signing nevertheless and maybe it is time we brought the boy back home.
