Reliable journo confirms that Chelsea are well informed on in-demand Arsenal target

Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea and Arsenal have held talks to sign Ivan Toney

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Arsenal have been informed of Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford and have held talks to sign the striker.

Chelsea hopes to secure the signing of a highly-rated striker from the Premier League to fix their quality in front of the net, while Arsenal wants to add another No. 9 to the squad. Both teams can generally benefit from a prolific goal scorer starting upfront.

Meanwhile, Toney hasn’t featured in any games since the striker was found guilty of breaching betting rules and was handed an eight-month ban by the Premier League. He should return midway through the campaign and should be raring to go.

The England international will return to action in January, but it will be unlikely for Brentford as bigger Premier League clubs line up for his acquisition. Hopefully, Chelsea will be the ones to benefit and already have a move lined up.

Romano has given further updates on Chelsea and the Gunners’ pursuit of the 27-year-old.Speaking on his YouTube channel (h/t Metro), he revealed:

‘The Premier League is the priority of the player. Chelsea is well informed of the situation of the player, and Arsenal is also well informed of the conditions of a potential deal. Both clubs have asked for information. At the moment, we can guarantee that both Chelsea and Arsenal are informed of the situation.’’

As the winter window draws closer, there will undoubtedly be more interest from the club, and for the time being, Chelsea and Arsenal will compete for his acquisition. We have already engaged in a bidding war with the North Londoners for the signing of a star player, and this may be another possibility.

We now have a sturdy midfield and defence, so there is no requirement for further investments in those areas; instead, we should look for a proven striker from the English top-flight league. It would be best if we simply pursued the striker during the winter transfer window, given that the Bees might seek £80 million for him. However, it won’t be uncomplicated because more clubs are going to pursue him.
