Chelsea are monitoring Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal

Chelsea are monitoring Aaron Ramsdale’s position at Arsenal after the England international was on the bench in their 1-0 win over Everton, as Mikel Arteta started David Raya.

According to MailOnline, (h/t Metro), the West Londoners are keeping tabs on the goalkeeper situation at Arsenal and could make a move in January.

It is understood that the Blues remain open to signing another goalkeeper despite the acquisition of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic during the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been loaned out to Real Madrid for an entire season, and if the Blues are to make a move for another custodian, then they should first sort out the future of Kepa. If Real opts against signing Kepa permanently, then Chelsea will have a total of three goalkeepers next campaign.

The 25-year-old has remained a preferred choice goalkeeper under Mikel Arteta, but the acquisition of Raya is resulting in both custodians competing for the no.1 spot.

However, Raya has been signed on loan, so it remains unknown if the Gunners would want to sign him permanently. But if they do, Ramsdale’s playing time in north London could be reduced.

If Arsenal continue to deploy Raya as their starting custodian then Ramsdale asking for a move away seems like a very plausible situation. He is in fierce contention to be England’s No. 1 and not playing regularly will harm his chances significantly.

But Chelsea have to be wise. We won’t want to cram our team with too many goalkeepers if Kepa returns for the upcoming season. As of late, Sanchez has appeared at ease in goal.

He was brilliant against Bournemouth, and if he keeps up this fine form, we would be better off not adding another keeper for the starting role.
