“We are moving in the right direction”- Ben Chilwell sends message to Chelsea stars after Nottingham Forest loss

Ben Chilwell has advised Chelsea players to show more determination to win games

Chelsea’s Vice-captain Ben Chilwell has told his teammates to be more ruthless to win games after West Londoners lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The Blues were the better side, as they created the most chances, had the lion’s share of possession, and also produced 21 shots on target but failed to convert either of them.

Minutes after Forest broke the deadlock, Chelsea were presented with a chance to cancel Antony Elanga’s goal after Raheem Sterling teed up Nicolas Jackson, who in haste squandered the opportunity.

This saw the Blues lose their second game of the season after a 3-1 defeat to West Ham United. Chelsea have won only once in their last three Premier League games.

However, Chilwell feels the club is heading in the right direction, but in order to win games, they should show more ruthlessness. (h/t Daily Mail) He further said on the club’s official website:

”We are moving in the right direction.  In every game, we have controlled possession, and in the majority of matches, we have played well. We need to finish chances, be more ruthless, and stay composed to get back into games.”

”That’s the final bit, finishing our chances. If you look at the stats, we dominated the game and had possession, but the most important stat is the goals. We lost in that department and lost the game; that is the black and white of it.”

Performance-wise, we’ve made significant progress from last season and have demonstrated our capacity to turn a match around through individual excellence. However, if we want to win games, we also need to score goals, since controlling possession won’t make sense if we aren’t doing so. We had many opportunities against Nottingham, but none of them were finished.

Pochettino now has a week to rectify what has gone wrong and why we are not playing with so much efficiency in the games. Hopefully, he will come with answers, and we will get back to winning ways.
