Chelsea could be involved in a curious swap with AS Roma involving former Blues star

AS Roma could swap Tammy Abraham to land Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea

According to Calciomercato, Chelsea could finally get rid of Romelu Lukaku, as AS Roma are ready to turn the loan move into a permanent one and want to offer England striker Tammy Abraham in exchange.

The Belgian striker’s successful start at Roma has paid dividends, as Lukaku has contributed to the last three goals across all competitions for the Italians. Jose Mourinho needed a reliable goal scorer and now appears to have gotten just that.

Lukaku’s performance has impressed Roma, and they are exploring options to make his move permanent and could offer former Chelsea star Abraham in exchange.

The England attacker is currently recovering from a left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear. It seems doubtful that Abraham will straight back into the first XI given Lukaku’s current form.

The West Londoners are looking to add Ivan Toney to the roster but face competition from big Premier League clubs, and offloading Lukaku permanently will make room for more signings. But whether it will be at the cost of Abraham remains to be seen.

Chelsea, who have inserted a ‘bargaining chip’ before selling Abraham to Roma, could sign him for around  €35–40 million, although it remains to be seen if that will hold any leverage in negotiations for the 25-year-old.

We have the whole season ahead of us, and it’s soon to be seen if Roma will really sign him permanently. Given that Romelu Lukaku at times suffers a drop in form in the middle of the campaign. We cannot predict for how long he will continue his current goalscoring. We can hope he remains consistent in front of goal, as it will also help us scoop a good amount of profit from his departure.

Signing Tammy Abraham doesn’t make sense given that he is currently injured and we don’t know when he will return. Even if he returns before January, we will certainly take a few games to hit the stride. so it’s better we look elsewhere and perhaps land someone a tad more prolific.
