Tottenham Hotspur could sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to replace Harry Kane

Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku is being eyed by Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window to replace Harry Kane, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun).

Bayern Munich are close to completing the signing of Spurs’ English talisman this summer. To that end, the North London side could turn their attention to the Belgium international to bolster their attack.

As things stand, the 30-year-old has been frozen out of Chelsea’s first team setup. In recent weeks, he has been linked with a move back to Italy. However, deals have failed to materialise.

Lukaku wanted to return to Inter Milan this summer. But the Nerazzurri failed to come to a consensus with the Blues. Juventus have also shown interest in the striker, but a deal looks unlikely for now.

Now, Tottenham could pursue his signature. However, the Belgian is not preferred by Ange Postecoglou. The Australian manager is not a big fan of the attacker.

Chelsea re-signed Lukaku in the summer of 2021 from Inter. However, the striker’s return to the West London club was not a fruitful one and he returned to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium side on loan.

But the Belgian failed to make an impact at the Nerazzurri in the 2022/23 term, partly due to injuries. While Chelsea seem to be in need of a number nine after Christopher Nkunku’s injury, the Stamford Bridge side are determined to sell the former Everton and Manchester United striker.

Mauricio Pochettino has Nicolas Jackson at his disposal as well. The former Villarreal star was impressive during pre-season. But we evidently need more goalscoring threat up front.

But it does not look like Lukaku is trusted by Chelsea. Therefore, if Tottenham do make an approach to sign him, it would be best for us to part ways with the Belgian.
