Bayern Munich feel Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga keen on Bundesliga move

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich feels Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga is keen on joining them in the ongoing transfer window, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.

The Bavarians are interested in acquiring the Spain international’s services this summer. However, as things stand, the German outfit are yet to reach an agreement with the Blues for the goalkeeper.

For now, the Allianz Arena side are ‘pushing’ to get a hold of the 28-year-old’s signature on an initial loan deal. They will also include an option to buy, but the fee has not been clarified right now. Discussions are expected to continue regarding the same.

Kepa established himself at Athletic Bilbao before Chelsea signed him for a record £71.6 million fee in the summer of 2018. Subsequently, the Spaniard was installed as the number one at the Stamford Bridge side.

The shot-stopper had a decent debut campaign at the West London club. However, the goalkeeper’s first year under Maurizio Sarri was marred by the incident where he refused to be substituted in the Carabao Cup final defeat right before the penalty shootout.

After that, Kepa managed to keep his place in the team, but it was not for long. Over the years, the shot-stopper has been underwhelming and has been culpable of making several errors in between the sticks.

With the arrival of Edouard Mendy in the summer of 2020, the Spaniard lost his place in the team. However, in the previous campaign, the Senegalese was pipped by the former Athletic star in the pecking order.

In the 2022/23 term, Kepa seemed to be our first choice. However, it was a volatile season for us. The goalkeeper ended up making 39 appearances in all competitions for us.

With Mendy and Gabriel Slonina gone, the Spaniard is one of the few established shot-stoppers in our ranks. We have signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. But it would not be wise to go into next season with goalkeeping uncertainty.
