Romano gives update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Lyon star, says transfer is ‘not close’

Olympique Lyon forward Bradley Barcola ‘not close’ to Chelsea transfer

Chelsea are ‘not close’ to acquiring the services of Olympique Lyon star Bradley Barcola in the ongoing transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Blues are interested in getting a hold of the French national this summer. However, the Stamford Bridge side are set to shift their focus to other alternative targets.

Les Gones were looking to sign Andrey Santos on loan from the West London club as part of the deal to send their 20-year-old prodigy to the Premier League.

However, discussions between the Ligue 1 outfit and Mauricio Pochettino’s team have stopped after Nottingham Forest got the 19-year-old Brazilian on a temporary move.

Barcola has made his way through the youth ranks at Lyon. After breaking into the first-team setup in the 2021/22 term, the youngster became a key player for them last season.

In the previous campaign, the French national made 35 appearances in all competitions for the French side, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists. The forward has started in all three of their matches this season as well.

At Chelsea, Raheem Sterling has come into his own in the first few matches under Pochettino. The former Manchester City star has been electric for the Blues at the start of the new campaign.

We also have Mykhaylo Mudryk in our ranks. However, the Ukrainian is yet to make a mark at the Stamford Bridge side. The West London club also have Noni Madueke at their disposal. On the other hand, the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have parted ways with us.

However, with the injury to Christopher Nkunku, we could evidently do with additional reinforcements up top. However, with the dismissal of Barcola as an option, it remains to be seen who Chelsea will turn to.
