Mauricio Pochettino believes the Chelsea squad is a mess
According to the Express, Mauricio Pochettino is looking to further trim the Chelsea squad, which could see more than seven players leave after he described the situation at Stamford Bridge as a mess.
Despite selling plenty of players and securing £230 million to relax their Financial Fair Play risk, the new Chelsea boss still feels they need to reduce the squad size further. Surely its a matter of the survival of the fittest in west London.
The club had a total of 33 players last season, which made it difficult for then-managers Graham Potter and Frank Lampard to organise training sessions. Quality over quantity should be our mantra going forward.
The Blues have done well to sell several players, such as Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly in the ongoing summer transfer window. But they might not be done just yet.
Chelsea still have ample young players who can be sent on loan, but the decision lies with Pochettino. The former Southampton manager is set to decide between Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei, and new signing Lesley Ugochukwu. The Argentine manager has 29 players, which still seems too much for the manager to decide.
The new season is just two weeks away, and Pochettino has yet to find a solid starting eleven. They also need a defensive midfielder following the departure of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.
Despite selling an extensive number of players, we bought a bunch of young players, and few would walk straight into the first XI. Pochettino is an excellent coach but is not a miracle worker who can create gold from lead.
In defence, we have already found the replacement for Wesley Fofana by signing Axel Disasi. Nicolas Jackson has shown that he is capable enough to lead the forward line with Armando Broja could be his backup and Christopher Nkunku as another striker option.

A team with too many players risks becoming disorganised since many of them will get less game action, especially young players whose growth will be hampered. It will be best to make adjustments to the squad before the season begins since we definitely don’t want to replicate the circumstances from last season.
