Chelsea make an opening bid for 25-year-old Premier League goalkeeper

Chelsea have launched opening bid for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez

Chelsea are hoping to complete a deal as soon as possible as they make their opening bid for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez in the ongoing summer transfer window.

According to Athletic, (h/t Metro) the West Londoners have sent their first offer to Brighton as they set to look for a Kepa Arrizabalaga competitor for the first spot between the sticks.

However, the Seagulls have yet to answer Chelsea’s offer, but talks are continuing to sign the Spanish goalkeeper. The 25-year-old was also left out of Brighton’s pre-season games after the South Coast side signed Bart Verbruggen in the summer window as his replacement.

Sanchez has been part of the Brighton academy and has made his name at the club, becoming the first-choice goalkeeper and also helping the club secure a Europa League spot for the first time.

It is understood that the Seagulls are hoping to get £30 million from the Spanish goalkeeper’s exit but have struggled to secure that much and have not included the goalkeeper in their plans for next season. His departure from the club looks likely considering the Shot-Stopper has been practising with the U18 side and might be not in their plans for the upcoming campaign.

Sanchez could provide decent competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga who has been inconsistent since joining the club for a record fee. Sanchez is a decent goalkeeper but it is debatable if he is a clear update on Kepa.

We should aim to acquire him for the least amount possible in the hopes that he will develop at Chelsea. Considering that Ben Roberts, the goalkeeping coach for the Blues’ shot-stoppers, developed him into an accomplished goalkeeper while he was at Brighton, Roberts was instrumental in helping Sanchez develop into a capable goalkeeper, and should the Seagulls goalie join us, he may be able to reinvigorate his career under his former mentor.
