Leicester City ‘insisting’ on signing 20-year-old Chelsea player on loan

Leicester City send new request to sign Cesare Casadei despite Chelsea’s Premier League insistence

As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Leicester City have sent a new request to sign Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei on loan despite the Blues’ insistence on a Premier League loan for him.

New Leicester coach Enzo Maresca could be key in this negotiation. The Italian wants Casadei as the Foxes aim to come straight back to the Premier League after getting relegated at the end of last season.

Chelsea signed the young Italian midfielder for a deal around £12m plus add-ons from Inter Milan. Although he is yet to play a senior game for the Blues, his performances in the U20 World Cup in Argentina attracted a lot of attention.

The 20-year-old scored seven goals and assisted two in seven appearances in that competition and led Italy to the final before losing out to Uruguay.

Casadei was with the Chelsea pre-season camp in the USA. It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep him as a part of the playing squad next season.

By what the update from Romano eludes, it seems as if a loan move to a fellow Premier League club is the preference. The idea behind this could be to have a closer look at the player plying his trade in a league the same in quality and intensity as the one Chelsea are playing.

Casadei is a box-to-box central midfielder with an eye for a goal or two. He has the talent and awareness of the game to do well. A loan move to Leicester might not be the end of the world because they were a Premier League club until last season. The Foxes have a squad of players who have top-flight experience. Lastly, their ambition would be to jump straight back up the division by next May.

It could be great for Casadei to go there and help them in regaining the Premier League status while playing regularly and earning valuable experience.
