Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea conditions on loaning defensive star to PL rivals

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea will let Marcu Cucurella join Manchester United on loan

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea are open to letting Marc Cucurella leave on loan to join Manchester United, but only if the Red Devils will cover his entire salary and loan fee.

United and Chelsea have held initial talks, and it was understood the Blues are ready to loan the left-back for the entire season, but they have their demands. Now it’s up to Erik ten Hag to make a decision on the signing of the Spanish left-back.

Erik ten Hag’s side are desperate to sign a left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw, who is set to remain out of action for several months, and Tyrell Malacia, who missed pre-season due to a setback from the previous campaign. This leaves them short in the left-back spot with just days left in the summer transfer window to address the shortcoming.

United plan to do just that and have made a shortlist of left-backs. Cucurella is among them and could join them if there is a breakthrough in talks with Chelsea.

The 25-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season, with Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen preferred over him by Mauricio Pochettino. Having fallen down the pecking order, he could do with a new challenge to resurrect his career.

Since Shaw and Malacia are injured, sending him a loan will be a rational decision. Cucurella could get a lot of game time to find his rhythm under Ten Hag and return to Chelsea with his confidence boosted.

Remaining at Chelsea could see him get fewer minutes on the pitch as the Blues have good depth in the left-back area. So a season-long loan doesn’t hurt anybody as long as he will have the chance to rediscover the form he displayed at Brighton & Hove Albion. Chelsea might consider recalling him if they are impressed by his performance, or if not, maybe sell him for a reasonable fee. If United are willing to sign him, they should cover his wages and it is only fair that we demand it so.

Cucurella is a talented player whose confidence appears shot following the poor debut campaign in Blue. Hopefully he will soon rediscover his best and stake a claim in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the future.
