Atletico Madrid outcast ‘very interested’ in returning to Chelsea

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix “very interested” in return to Chelsea

Joao Felix would be “very interested” in making a move back to Chelsea in the ongoing transfer window from Atletico Madrid, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs on Twitter.

The Portugal international spent the second half of the 2022/23 term on loan at the Blues. At the Stamford Bridge side, the 23-year-old caught a lot of people’s attention with some impressive displays.

However, Felix returned to Los Rojiblacnos this summer. Mauricio Pochettino opted against getting a hold of the forward once again this summer. As things stand, he is out of favour under Diego Simeone.

Speaking on his Twitter space, Jacobs revealed that the Portuguese would be willing to come back to Chelsea. However, any potential deal would depend on the Blues’ Argentine manager changing his mind.

“Felix would be very interested in any Chelsea approach, especially if Barcelona falls through but there is nothing active at the moment and it would have to take Mauricio Pochettino u-turning on his input for that to change.”

Felix signed for Atletico in the summer of 2019 from SL Benfica. The attacker was one of the most promising prospects in football back then. However, he has been unable to fulfil that potential so far at the La Liga outfit.

Having joined the Stamford Bridge side temporarily in January 2023, the Portuguese made a mark in England. In 20 appearances in all competitions for the West London club, the forward scored four goals and was one of our best players during a tumultuous period.

Felix seems to be out of Simone’s plans for this season. The Portuguese has not featured in the first three matches of the current campaign for the Spanish giants.

At Chelsea, Christopher Nkunku injured himself during pre-season. Nicolas Jackson has started up top but has been inconsistent with his displays. Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke are the other options at the gaffer’s disposal.

Considering Felix’s displays for us last season, he has made a case for his return. However, will Pochettino and Chelsea end up acquiring the Portuguese star’s services in the final days of the transfer window? Only time will tell.
