Arsenal willing to sell 23-year-old Chelsea midfield target

Arsenal willing to sell Emile Smith Rowe amidst interest from Chelsea

Premier League rivals Arsenal are willing to part ways with Emile Smith Rowe this summer amidst interest from Chelsea, according to The Times (Subscription Required).

The Blues are looking to acquire the services of the English national in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Stamford Bridge side have made an approach to get a hold of the midfielder’s signature.

At the moment, the 23-year-old is unsettled with his lack of game time under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners have offered the player to other unnamed teams recently.

As things stand, the North London side have not put a valuation on Smith Rowe. However, last season’s Premier League runner-ups could cash in on the playmaker to recoup some of the money they have spent so far.

Arsenal signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer. The Germany international has enjoyed regular game time in the middle of the park at the Gunners, alongside new signing Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Smith Rowe made his way through the youth ranks at the North London side. Subsequently, in the 2021/22 term, the English national broke onto the scene, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 33 appearances in the league.

However, fitness issues have hampered the attacking midfielder’s development over the last year. In the previous campaign, the youngster was hardly given any minutes by Arteta. He has not featured much for the Emirates Stadium side so far this season, either.

At Chelsea, we have already signed the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to bolster our engine room. But the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Christopher Nkunku, who are capable of playing in the number 10 role, are on the sidelines for now.

Therefore, the Blues could evidently do with a bit more creativity in their ranks. However, Smith Rowe arguably needs consistent game time to get back to his best after the injury. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the English national will opt to compete for minutes at the West London club.
