Chelsea transfer target seeking mammoth £103.8 million release clause in new contract

Victor Osimhen wants £103.8 million release clause in new Napoli contract amidst Chelsea interest

Napoli star Victor Osimhen wants the Serie A giants to add a £103.8 million release clause in his new contract amidst interest from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports Italy (h/t football.london).

As things stand, the Nigeria international’s existing deal with the Partenopei expires in the summer of 2025. The striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

To that end, the Italian outfit do not want to lose him for cheap next year and are keen on securing the 24-year-old’s future. However, an agreement between the two parties is far off at this point as the Naples-based club wants to set the clause at £173 million.

Chelsea are still in the race to sign Osimhen, despite Napoli’s reluctance to sell him this summer. Premier League rivals Manchester United also have the Nigerian on their radar.

The Blues believe the 24-year-old has the talent to change the side’s misfortunes in front of goal. In the previous campaign, the striker established himself as a prolific goalscorer in Serie A.

Osimhen thrived at the Partenopei last season. In 39 appearances in all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s team, the Nigerian found the back of the net 31 times and provided five assists.

Chelsea evidently need to bolster their attack. We have signed Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson for now. However, we arguably need a lethal number nine in our ranks as well.

Romelu Lukaku has returned to the club for now. Unfortunately, the Belgian has failed at the club and looks to be on his way out. The West London club have also sold Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in the ongoing transfer window.

Osimhen seems to be one of the missing pieces of the puzzle at Chelsea. However, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will be able to acquire his services in the coming years.
