Lazio interested in signing Chelsea forward on loan deal

Lazio join multiple Premier League clubs in the race to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi

As per a tweet from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t Metro), Lazio have entered the race to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan with an obligation to buy this summer.

The report reveals that fellow Serie A side AC Milan are also interested in the player who wants to leave the Blues in this transfer window. It makes sense from his POV, considering the club have invested in Noni Madueke and Mykhalyo Mudryk to be future starters in that position.

A few days ago, Evening Standard reported that three Premier League clubs – Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Fulham will be competing to sign the winger in the coming days.

Here’s what Pedulla tweeted (translated version):

“New contacts #Lazio for #HudsonOdoi name on the list for 10 days 👇 Can arrive on loan with a right that becomes an obligation. The attacking winger has two English clubs pressing”

For the first time in his career since graduating from the Chelsea Academy, Hudson-Odoi went out on loan last summer. He spent a season with German side Bayer Leverkusen. Safe to say, that was an underwhelming stay for the winger in the Bundesliga.

He made only 21 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one and assisting one goal (Transfermarkt). With him accepting that playing time would be limited at Chelsea, it is the right time to let him go as well.

The 22-year-old has only one year left in his contract at Stamford Bridge (Transfermarkt). It would be better to sell him for some money now rather than risk him going for free next summer or signing a pre-contract agreement in January.

Hudson-Odoi is a good winger who has had his development taken a step back in the past couple of years. He is still only 22 and has time to resurrect this at the next club and come back to the limelight in the world game.

The Englishman has the talent and qualities to do well if backed and guided well. Coming back to Lazio’s attempt to sign him on loan, it would be better if they pay the money now itself and take the player. If not, an obligation would be better rather than an option — but that is if the club have stopped betting on his future.
