Journo confirms Bundesliga bound Chelsea star has completed medical

Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea youngster David Datro Fofana has completed his medical at Union Berlin

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has officially completed his medical for Union Berlin to join them on a season long loan. The documents have been signed between both clubs, and the player is to remain at the club until 2024 on loan with no option to buy.

The youngster joined the West Londoners from Molde for £11 million last January but failed to get enough minutes on the pitch. He made only four appearances across all competitions for the Blues, failing to record a single goal.

Now that the Blues have signed Nicolas Jackson, Fofana would have found it more difficult to get game time next season. Armando Borja’s return adds further competition, limiting the chances of Fofana to become a first XI regular.

A loan move for the 20-year-old to a German club will make sense for him to evolve into a quality striker and arrive at the club with more experience to fight for a place at Stamford Bridge. Fofana’s exit will also give Chelsea the leeway to bring in a senior prolific striker to address their goalscoring woes.

Chelsea will be hoping to find a reliable goal scorer who can lead the line with minimum fuss. Mauricio Pochettino could do with just such a player as he plots to rekindle the club’s fortunes.

Meanwhile, Fofana will have time to work on his game and make a case for his ambitions as a Chelsea first XI star. He is only 20 years old, will be given the resources at Union Berlin to develop into a top-tier attacker. The Bundesliga is a good testing ground for youngsters and the Blues starlet could soon mke a name for himself.
