Reliable Journo confirms Chelsea January addition is set for Bundesliga loan

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is close to joining Union Berlin on loan

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea January signing David Datro Fofana is closing in on a season-long loan switch to the German club Union Berlin ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Both clubs are in the final stages of talks and it is soon to be concluded to send the striker on loan for an entire season, with no buy option. Now the only thing that remains is the green light from the youngster before the deal is officially completed.

The 20-year-old, who joined the club in January, only made four appearances throughout all competitions, failing to find the net. However, his potential is clear for all to see and regular football in Germany will aid his development.

A loan spell to another league might help the striker evolve into an elite forward, as Fofana could see less game time next season at Chelsea given that they have signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. At 20, he should be ironing out his deficiencies and a stint at Union Berlin will aid him in doing just that.

Despite continue to be linked with strikers this summer. Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic remains in the Blues’ sights, while Harry Kane is another option, but it will be challenging to land the England skipper given our rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Fofana loan move will also make room for the signing of a more experienced striker, as Chelsea’s main problem last season was scoring goals. A prolific number nine will certainly make life easier for Mauricio Pochettino in his first season in charge.

German clubs are consistently among the ideal clubs that transform young players into seasoned players. Fofana is in fine company and could be the nest familiar name to break through in the Bundesliga.

We have seen how Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have developed Jude Bellingham and Christopher Nkunku, respectively. So we can hope Union Berlin will help the 20-year-old develop into a top-quality striker.
