Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly will be unveiled at Al-Hilal next week

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Al-Hilal have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Kalidou Koulibaly to join the Middle Eastern club.

Romano also revealed the former Napoli defender is expected to complete his medical and sign his contract. The move is progressing along well and as long as everything goes to plan, the Senegalese star will be unveiled as an Al-Hilal player.

The 31-year-old will join fellow teammates Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy in moving to the middle east as the Blues trim down their squad. Thankfully rather than be lumbered with un-required players, the Blues have been able to land themselves decent transfer fees that can now be reinvested.

Koulibaly joined Chelsea from Napoli for £33 million last summer on a four-year deal. However, he displayed inconsistent performances and has largely proven himself to be a liability rather than an asset.

The 30-year-old played only 23 Premier League games last season and was earning £162,000 a week in wages. Even though both teams have reached a full personal agreement, the price tag remains unclear.

Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager, is anticipated to take over on July 1 as the Blues expect to reduce their overly large roster. With the surplus players being moved out, the Argentine will have a dedicated squad of players to work with.

Given that he was one of Napoli’s greatest defenders during his time in Serie A, it is unfortunate that the veteran defender didn’t leave his mark at Stamford Bridge. It is a shame how his career developed in west London as he was clearly a beast on his day in the Italian top flight.

More Chelsea News:

Now, it is time for the club and player to move on and with the addition of Levi Colwill, who might replace Koulibaly, we look forward to exciting times. Koulibaly’s time at the Bridge was underwhelming and e wish him the best elsewhere.
