Chelsea set to open talks with PL club for South American star, says Romano

Chelsea are set to open talks for Moises Caicedo with Brighton and Hove Albion

As per transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to open talks with Brighton and Hove Albion for midfielder Moises Caicedo within the next 24 or 48 hours.

It is also revealed that personal terms are not an issue with Chelsea prepared to ‘attack’ the deal. Doing business with the Seagulls is never easy because they are one of the shrewd entities with regard to player transfer dealings.

The latest from Sky Sports is that Manchester United are set to make a formal approach to sign Caicedo as Erik ten Hag is keen on signing the Brighton star.

In the last few weeks, we have seen a lot happen between United and Chelsea because the former was interested in signing Mason Mount. The latter has so far rejected three bids for the England international, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer.

Coming back to Caicedo, there is an expectation that Brighton will let the Ecuadorian leave this summer. They would demand something in the region of £80m. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are going to pay that amount or negotiate a deal with the Seagulls.

There is no doubt that if the Blues sign the 21-year-old, he would form an exceptional midfield partnership with Enzo Fernandez. The latter is more of a technically strong deeper-lying midfielder. Hence, having a player of Caicedo’s ilk beside him would help in forming a good pair in the engine room of the team.

With United now in the equation too, will it force Chelsea to hurry up the negotiation and make sure the Red Devils do not have a sniff at the player? Possibly so. Mauricio Pochettino might also like the signings made as early as possible to get them integrated into the squad for the pre-season.
