Chelsea ready to part ways with out-of-favour attacker for £34 million this summer

Chelsea are ready to offload Romelu Lukaku for £34m this summer

Chelsea have set a new price tag for Romelu Lukaku, which is around £34 million, as they look to sell him permanently in the ongoing summer transfer window.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport, as translated by Sports Witness, (h/t Mirror) the striker is aware the Blues want to get rid of him. The saga has been described as an ‘endless quarrel’ and a parting of the ways appears ideal for all parties..

However, the Blues don’t want to lose him for free given they paid £97.5m to sign him just two summers ago. However, it is difficult to see them recoup the same amount, especially given Inter Milan’s financial situation.

The 30-year-old isn’t part of new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plan for next season, and the Blues are hoping to sell him for good. Selling him will see us recoup what we can while also freeing up space on the wage bill.

Inter Milan remains a possible destination, and now the Blues are open to cutting down his price tag to encourage an exit. Whether the Italians will now see it prudent to make their move remains to be seen.

The Nerazzurri’s arch-rivals, AC Milan are also now keen on signing the striker, but it is understood that Lukaku has rejected any move to the San Siro due to his love for Inter. The 30-year-old also turned down Al-Hilal’s attractive contract as he wanted to continue playing in Europe.

Clearly Lukaku’s attentions lie elsewhere and even retaining his services might not be enough for Chelsea to get the best out of him on the field. A summer exit, the sooner it happens, is a win-win for all parties.

Sending him again on loan to Inter could be problematic espeially if the agreement lacks an obligation to buy. A permanant solution is the best foot forward. Few who have seen Lukaku in Blue will argue otherwise.
