Fluminense fans welcome Thiago Silva as the Chelsea legend returns to Brazil

As per a source of Football.London, multiple unnamed Saudi clubs are interested in signing Chelsea and Brazil defender Thiago Silva during the summer transfer window.

The report reveals that the intermediaries of those unnamed clubs have started speaking to Chelsea, probably to request information about the player’s plans.

A few weeks ago, it was reported in the Telegraph that the Blues won’t stand in the Brazilian’s way if he decides to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. He signed a one-year contract extension in February, by the way.

The former AC Milan and Paris-Saint Germain defender has been linked with a move back to Brazilian side Fluminense, but he quashed those rumours and insisted that he will set out his contract at Chelsea.

It would be interesting to see if interest from the Saudi clubs turn the 38-year-old’s head towards making a move there. The Saudi League got a massive upgrade in viewership when Cristiano Ronaldo joined after the World Cup. Getting another experience and an elite player like Silva would be good for their league.

Now, although Chelsea have decided to not stand in his way if he wants to leave, there could be a case made that the Blues need him for one more season.

The incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino may need the experience and guile of Silva at the back in his first season at the club. Moreover, the latter is a natural leader and still plays well despite being 38.

Hence, unless the player wants to leave, Chelsea should do whatever they can to ward off interest from Saudi clubs in Thiago Silva. Keeping a player of his pedigree will be helpful when Pochettino starts afresh next season.
