Rudy Galetti confirms Chelsea might be priced out of landing Serie A shot-stopper

Chelsea deem Inter Milan’s asking price for Andre Onana too expensive

According to journalist Rudy Galetti via GivemeSport, Chelsea believe Inter Milan are asking too much for their first-choice shot-stopper Andre Onana.

The Serie A powerhouses are asking for €50 million (£45 million) for the Cameroon international, but the Blues believe this is too much. Chelsea are in the market for a new goalkeeper following Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy’s struggles.

The quest for the right custodian continues, as a goalie is a key signing for the West Londoners for the upcoming season. As the last line of defence, we cannot afford to get the signing wrong.

They have been linked to a variety of goalies, while the futures of Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga remain uncertain. Onana has impressed for Inter this season, aiding them to the UEFA Champions League final.

The Cameroonian seems to be the preferred choice the club wants to sign and replace with Kepa. The next Blues’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has already pushed the team to hire a top-notch goalkeeper. Galetti has already confirmed that Chelsea feels Onana’s price is too high, as he told GIVEMESPORT:

“Onana could leave Inter in the summer if a suitable offer arrives. Chelsea are seriously interested in the Cameroonian goalkeeper. However, the current price at the request of the Italian club is €50 million (£45 million) and is considered too high by the Blues.”

Onana has been outstanding in goal this year. He is the type of goalie we need and at 27 is in the prime of his career. Signing him will also future-proof the position for years to come.

However, it appears that his price is too exorbitant; therefore, we will need to consider our alternatives. We could potentially offer a peripheral player in part exchange should we go all in for Onana.

However, we had already broken the transfer record for goalkeepers when we signed Kepa for £71.6 million. So, if Inter are willing to bargain, it would be ideal. If not, we may search for other candidates or go all-out for the former Ajax Amsterdam custodian.
