Pochettino could aid Chelsea’s wish to retain world-class star’s services

Mauricio Pochettino appointment could help Chelsea find N’Golo Kante solution

According to the Telegraph (subscription needed) [h/t Football.London] Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at Chelsea may help the club extend the contract of N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.

Kante and the former Paris-Saint Germain manager have mutual respect for one another. If the Argentine coach is chosen to lead the Blues, it may help us retain the 32-year-old.

Chelsea and the Frenchman are in negotiations to extend his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the current campaign. Following ongoing discussions with the Chelsea leadership, the Blues are now close to appointing the former Paris Saint-Germain manager as their next head coach for the upcoming season.

Several clubs are reportedly keeping an eye on the French international’s situation at Stamford Bridge. They could pounce if he is unable to reach an agreement with Chelsea about the renewal of his contract.

Kante has only made seven Premier League appearances this year after missing the majority of the campaign due to injuries. The Blues, meanwhile, are now in 11th place and have four games remaining before the end of their season.

Kante’s contract renewal is imminent, which is expected at the end of the season. Since his recovery, he has been excellent; it didn’t feel like he was out for months. The 32-year-old remains an integral part of the club and would be part of next season under Pochettino if he is appointed.

However, as he continues to pick injuries frequently and his absence this season has undoubtedly harmed our season as well, we will need to keep in mind that his backup will be required for the upcoming campaign.

Additionally, signing his backup would lessen his burden, but we should keep in mind that he is in his mid-30s and it would be wise to extend his contract for two-three years only.
