Argentine legend backs struggling Chelsea ace to regain his bearings under Lampard

Sergio Aguero backs Frank Lampard to aid Enzo Fernandez’s resurgence at Chelsea

Argentine footballing legend Sergio Aguero has claimed Enzo Fernandez can learn a lot from Frank Lampard’s interim spell at Chelsea.

Lampard is one of the Chelsea greats and is still the club’s leading scorer in history, having scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for the Blues. While his managerial ability is questionable, there is little doubt that few midfielders have made an impact on the Premier League like the Englishman.

Chelsea appointed the former Everton boss for an interim position as they continue to look for a permanent manager. However, the Blues have only recorded one win under the 44-year-old so far in his second spell.

Meanwhile, Fernandez, who set a British transfer record by moving from Benfica to Chelsea, has appeared in each contest since. His performances have been inconsistent with a few invisible outings largely offsetting moments of promise.

Aguero thinks that even during Lampard’s brief tenure, the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion could acquire a great deal of experience as a midfielder. Surely there are a few better midfielders to learn from. According to Stake.com, (h/t Football.London) the former Manchester City and Barcelona striker said:

“Not many people get a chance to learn from the best. I tried to do that during my career, and I’ve picked up teachings that I’ll carry with me forever. Frank’s experience will certainly be useful for Enzo. He’s a great kid, and you can tell he wants to keep on growing.”

“Frank clearly loves Chelsea. If you ask me, this love is what propelled him to the helm of the club in this tough moment. Very few people can shed the funk and give it all for their team.”

Aguero is right about that, there are a lot of things the former Blues midfielder has to offer to the youngster. However, his poor interim stint at Chelsea should not overshadow his playing career at the club. Being a midfielder and scoring 200 goals is no joke.

Although the 22-year-old is still young, it is clear that the expectations will be high considering that he is our most costly signing. Meanwhile, Lampard, who has assumed an interim position in a move that is unquestionably admirable from the club icon, is aware of how dire things are for the Blues.

However, from what we have seen so far, Enzo has been terrific. Of course, there are still some things that will need time. If Mauricio Pochettino is hired, the former Benfica midfielder might even perform well under the Argentine coach, who is known for helping young players under his regime.
