“Extend his loan”- Ian Wright keen to see Chelsea star extend Serie A stay

Ian Wright feels Romelu Lukaku wants to continue playing at Inter Milan

According to Ian Wright, Belgian international star Romelu Lukaku wants to stay at Inter Milan once his loan period is over rather than return to Chelsea at the end of the current season.

The striker, 29, wants to stay with the Serie A team but is expected to return to Chelsea once his loan period is over. Lukaku appears to be at home at the Giuseppe Meazza and is all set to face Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final.

The Belgian attacker has eight goals in 22 Serie A appearances this season. Ironically, Chelsea could have done with a goalscorer this season given their poor form in front of the goal.

But Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming Blues manager, is keen to keep Lukaku at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian has flattered to revive in two different stints at the Bridge and will hope to make it a third time lucky next season.

However, Ian Wright feels Lukaku would want to continue at Inter while speaking to Premier League production:

“I saw somewhere that they are trying to negotiate to extend his loan.” I think he wants Chelsea to continue to pay more of the loan. I don’t think he wants to come back.”

A lot will depend on what the 29-year-old will want to do in the immediate future. A monster of a player on his day, Lukaku thrives in the right system. Unfortunately despite several managers, we have failed to see him succeed at Chelsea.

Lukaku also struggled at Manchester United in the Premier. However, he earlier succeeded at Everton and West Bromwich Albion, proving that he could yet make a name for himself in the English top flight.

It would be wiser to hunt for a solid striker rather than take another chance with Lukaku given his past at the Bridge. However, a lot will depend on whether Pochettino really wants him to be a part of his rebuild.
