Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill claims he is still focused on Brighton Hove & Albion
Chelsea defender Levi Colwill discussed his future and stated that he is still focused on his loan stay with Brighton Hove & Albion.
The 20-year-old was loaned to Brighton, where he quickly established himself as a key player for the Seagulls. Colwill also assisted the Seagulls in qualifying for the Europa League for the first time in their history.
The England U21 has been enjoying his time at Amex, and his performance during his loan stay has prompted Chelsea to recall the 20-year-old for the upcoming campaign.
The centre-back featured in the entire game in Brighton’s penultimate encounter of the season, a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
After the game, Colwill talked about his future in an interview and said, via the Athletic (subscription required):
”Brighton have done a lot for me. They put their trust in me when others didn’t, and I’m a person who loves to repay that. We’ll see.”
”I don’t know what is going to happen [at Chelsea]. I’m still here until the end of the season. I just focus on that, and then I’ve got the Euros [the U21 European Championship with England] in the summer.”
Colwill has settled in nicely at Brighton, and Chelsea made a smart decision by loaning him out, allowing him to mature into an experienced centre-back.
If he hadn’t been sent to Brighton, he’d be sitting on the bench at Chelsea now with an appearance here or there. However, we now have a superb defender at our disposal, and considering Benoit Badiashile’s long-term injury and poor form, the 20-year-old should be expected to start next season and fill in his role.

Hopefully, Mauricio Pochettino will emphasise trusting youngsters. He will have an excellent young English defender to work on in Colwill and given his penchant of developing youngsters into world beaters, the on-loan Brighton star could be his next big project.
