Ben Jacobs claims Chelsea are interested in 29-year-old Three Lions shot-stopper

Ben Jacobs reveals Chelsea continue to keep tabs on Jordan Pickford

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Everton star Jordan Pickford alongside Inter Milan’s Andre Onana as they seek a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy at Chelsea, a goalie is another position that the Blues are trying to strengthen ahead of the upcoming season.

Mendy, who was Thomas Tuchel’s first choice between the posts, has been replaced by Kepa, who has performed poorly this season. Chelsea clearly needs a new last line of defence.

Another choice for the Blues is Onana, and the Blues have even held talks with Inter Milan over the signing of the Cameroonian goalie. We cannot afford to get this signing wrong.

And journalist Ben Jacobs has updated Chelsea on their new signing of a goalkeeper. In his exclusive Caught Offside column, he said:

“The goalkeeper situation is intriguing. Pochettino will want to assess Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy. There is nonetheless a feeling that a new No. 1 will be signed. Inter’s Andre Onana is one possibility. Chelsea and Spurs have looked at Jordan Pickford, too. If Everton stay up, that deal becomes a whole lot harder since he recently extended at Goodison Park.”

We will need a quality custodian next season because Kepa has been struggling this year. Onana and the England international are two more options.

Both are excellent goalkeepers, but if Everton are demoted from the Premier League, picking up Pickford would be much simpler. The 29-year-old is also familiar with the English Premier League, has good ball control and distribution, and ranks among the top five for the number of saves made per 90 minutes of play.

Therefore, we must thoroughly evaluate our situation before making a decision to sign a new goalkeeper. However, We won’t need to hire a new goalkeeper if Mauricio Pochettino succeeds in enhancing either of our present goalkeepers’ performances.
