Paul Merson labels Chelsea as a “dangerous animal” after their win over Leicester City

As per his column in Sky Sports, Football pundit Paul Merson labels Chelsea as a “dangerous animal” following their 3-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

It is now three wins on the trot in all competitions for Chelsea, two of them coming in the league and one overturning the last-16 tie of the Champions League.

All of a sudden, Graham Potter’s men are only seven points behind the Europa League spots in the table and are looking good ahead of the quarter-final tie in the Champions League in April.

Here’s an excerpt from Merson’s column (h/t Sky Sports):

“It was an outstanding week for Chelsea, with wins over Leeds, Dortmund and Leicester, and now with Everton at home next they can get on a roll. Football is a funny game how it can change so quickly, you’ve only got to look at Liverpool losing at Bournemouth.

“Graham Potter has switched to three at the back and it’s working. It’s taken a while for him to get it right but it’s 100 per cent better than with four in defence. Chelsea are a dangerous animal, they’ve got some unbelievable players and they just need to click – at times against Leicester they did.”

As Merson wrote, Graham Potter’s decision to switch to three at the back has worked wonders. The boss has managed to play both Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell in one system, the former operating as a left-sided centre-back with a license to push forward.

The attackers look in good form as well. Kai Havertz has got a goal in his last two games, while Mykhaylo Mudryk looked dangerous in his cameo appearance as a false nine. There is Raheem Sterling to come back from the knock as well.

In the midfield, Enzo Fernandez has settled in and looks very good. His passing, control of the area, off-the-ball work and that chip for Havertz’s goal were sumptuous.

Football is indeed a funny game. Sometimes a team can generate confidence at the right time to do magical things in the latter half of this season. If Chelsea continue this run, they have a real chance of climbing up the table and making a deeper run in the Champions League.

Up next is a home game against relegation-fighting Everton. While on paper it looks like an easy game, Sean Dyche’s men won’t give in easily.
