Napoli star Victor Osimhen is keen to make Premier League switch amidst Chelsea interest

Chelsea are keeping tabs on Napoli star Victor Osimhen who continues to make a name for himself in Serie A. With 21 goals in 26 appearances for the Italian team this season, the Nigerian forward has established himself among the most lethal strikers in Europe.

With 19 goals and four assists coming in the league, Napoli are in a dominant position at the summit of the Serie A standings, 15 points ahead of Inter Milan in second place. As long as Osimhen continues his fine form, they could be in line for a first Scudetto title since the Diego Maradona era.

Given that they only managed to score five goals in 12 games in 2023, the Blues are in desperate need of a reliable No. 9 this summer. Kai Havertz isn’t prolific while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has fallen swiftly down the pecking order.

And it is believed Osimhen will be able to handle Graham Potter’s issues. Now that the 24-year-old is ready to leave Naples, he has given a hint as to where he plans to go next.

But, Premier League rivals Manchester United are also apparently interested in the desirable attacker, so Chelsea will likely face tough competition to get him this summer.

Osimhen spoke (h/t Football.London), about his plans after this campaign when he accepted the Foreign Press Prize in Rome. He called the top division in England his “ideal” location, wouldn’t exclude a transfer, and said:

“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League one day. It’s a process, and I just want to keep on this momentum. Serie A is one of the top five leagues in the world, and it’s an amazing feeling for me.”

It sounds like he established himself at Napoli and now has his sights set on playing in the Premier League, which is a really positive indicator for a striker who wants to cement his dominance in the English top flight.

The Blues have spent big in recent windows but lack the infallible goalscorer to lead the line. There are few better players than Osimhen to fill the void and help make Graham Potter’s life easier.

And given our striker history, it is extremely difficult to establish here. If we are successful in signing Osimhen, we will be hoping he will be able to end this curse.
