Manchester United are close to signing Chelsea target Harry Amass from Watford’s youth academy

Chelsea may lose out to Manchester United in the race to recruit Harry Amass from the Watford youth academy. Amass (h/t Football.London), at just 15 years old, made the first-team roster in January and is on the verge of joining United.

Instead of staying in the Championship, where he can advance to the first team, the 16-year-old feels that playing at a reputed club’s academy will help him develop quickly into an experienced right-back.

He has long been among the regular starters for Charlie Daniels’ Hornets Under-18 team. After a string of losses, the team is presently seventh in the Professional Development League standings.

Only last month, he helped England win a trophy at the UEFA Development competition and is likely to join Manchester United. However, Chelsea still have the chance to hijack United’s deal.

The Red Devils could gain another promising talent for their academy. Amass has undoubtedly made his impact at the young level after winning the UEFA Development competition and appearing in every game for the Watford youth club.

Marcus Rashford, Gary Neville, and Paul Pogba are just a few of the elite talents that Manchester United’s academy have developed, and the 16-year-old could be one of them.

If we are unable to sign him, it won’t be a loss as we have already signed a few youngsters, this season—Jimmy Jay signing Morgan being one of the most recent.

And Chelsea’s youth academy have also produced many high-profile players, with John Terry and Jimmy Greaves among them, while recent, young, talented players Reece James and Mason Mount have established themselves as first-team players. And Todd Boehly will undoubtedly give importance to the youth academy.

More Chelsea News:

United also have a top-notch youth academy, if he establishes himself there as a first-team player in the coming years, then Chelsea can try to sign him later in future. Not that there is an urgent need for him right now in SW6… we have Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella as our established left-backs who are still in the prime years of their playing career.
