Chelsea contract rebel attracting attention from several Premier League clubs as uncertainty mounts

Chelsea star Mason Mount has several Premier League sides on his tail

Many Premier League clubs are already interested in acquiring Mason Mount as he and Chelsea struggle to agree on a Chelsea extension. According to the Athletic (Subscription required) (h/t Express), Mount’s primary goal is to stay with the team despite there being no progress in negotiations.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are all willing to sign the player when his contract with England’s national team expires in 2024, (Transfermarkt) Given his age and talent, Mount could become a mainstay for any of those clubs for years to come.

German champions Bayern Munich have surfaced as a fresh suitor, with their new manager Thomas Tuchel wanting to reunite with the player at the Allianz Arena. The German got the best out of Mount during his tenure at Stamford Bridge and there is no reason why he cannot rekindle that in Germany.

Under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, Mount was an important player and was awarded Chelsea Player of the Season twice. Injuries and a loss of form have so far seen him struggle for minutes under Graham Potter.

Nonetheless, the midfielder’s boost in pay has been the major reason for his contract standoff. He wants to earn the same amount as his teammates and unless the Blues budge, there is every chance he might walk.

If he doesn’t sign a new contract with the team, it’s also thought that Chelsea would sell him, but Mount’s long-standing relationship with the team might help arrange a deal. But there hasn’t been a settlement for his contract extension, and Liverpool appears to be the most likely place for him to go. If he goes, the club may want £70 million to sign him.

The fact that Mount is having a difficult season may be the reason Boehly is hesitant to increase the midfielder’s wages. But perhaps they are underestimating his abilities, or possibly he hasn’t yet become used to Graham Potter’s system.

It would be unjust to focus exclusively on him when other regular players like Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are all struggling this season.

In 53 games across all competitions during the previous campaign, he registered 13 goals and 14 assists. The club understands he is one of the top midfielders for the Blues, so perhaps this is just a temporary flaw this season and Boehly should extend his contract.
