As quoted by Transfer Guru Fabrizio Romano, Brighton and Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber has given a transfer update on the futures of midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, amidst links from Chelsea.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of midfielders at the start of this January transfer window. Among the players linked are the Brighton duo of Caicedo and Mac Allister.
The Blues have the signing of Enzo Fernandez in mind. But, if that deal does not get through, they might look at the possibility of signing Mac Allister. Other reports have linked us with Caicedo in the past few weeks.
Mac Allister was one of the best players for Argentina on their route to winning the World Cup. Caicedo, on the other hand, got eliminated from the first round with Ecuador but impressed us all with his performances.
So, as mentioned by Barber, Brighton cannot be surprised at the fact that there is interest from top clubs in these two players. Given the current scenario of the financial might of some of the elite clubs, it would be tough for the Seagulls to keep hold of them for too long.
Irrespective of that, it is brave for their CEO to make a clear stance on not wanting to sell their best assets at this moment in time.
Chelsea could do with midfield additions to their squad, both in January and in the summer. We have struggled to control games, even against mid-table teams. That is largely down to the fact that we do not have enough legs and quality together to dictate the tempo of the game and stifle the opposition for long periods of time.
Hence, we should continue our hunt to sign players. If an opening comes, getting either Mac Allister or Caicedo would be a great business.
