Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t Football.London), Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard has provided an update on his future amid interest from Chelsea and also made a ‘strange’ Graham Potter claim.
Since the time Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel as the Blues manager, Trossard has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. A few weeks ago, the Belgium international did mention that he would be open to a move to west London, provided he is not on the bench.
He has been in great form for the Seagulls this season but has his contract expiring at the end of this season. So, either Chelsea can sign him for a cut-price deal in January or for free next summer.
Here’s what Trossard said about his future and a bizarre decision from Potter to leave Brighton (h/t Football.London):
“Chelsea have in any case not yet reported. Not with Brighton and not with me. I have to wait and see. I want to finish strong at Brighton and leave for Qatar with that good feeling.
“That was very strange [Potter leaving Brighton], because I’ve always played under Potter at Brighton and have got better year after year.”
Trossard has scored seven goals and assisted three in 13 league appearances this season. His goals have included a hat-trick at Anfield against Liverpool, an opener against Chelsea in a thumping win for Brighton and a great goal at the Etihad against Manchester City.
He can operate in any position across the forward line and has done well as a number nine since Roberto De Zerbi took over the helm at the Amex Stadium.
The 27-year-old has great qualities on the ball, can take defenders on in tight spaces, has a good shot in him, can operate as a play-maker and possesses a great work ethic off the ball.
For a possible cut-price deal in January or as a free agent next summer, signing Trossard would be a no-brainer for Chelsea. The player is top drawer, along with his glowing experience of doing well in the Premier League and having worked under Potter before.
