Chelsea will travel to face Newcastle United later today (12 November) for their final Premier League before the month long World Cup break kicks in.
Graham Potter and co will look to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 loss against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, with a win over the Magpies at St. James Park.
However, it won’t be easy for the Blues as Newcastle are one of the trickiest opponents to play this season. Eddie Howe’s side have been in terrific form and have the best defence along with Arsenal in the league this season.
As for Chelsea, things could be better. They have lost their last two league games and will finish the first half of the season outside the top four. Their rivals today are in the Champions League spot and a defeat at Tyneside could hand the Magpies a nine point lead ahead of the west London club.
If this pressure was not enough, Potter will be without a host of senior players for the game. Reece James and Ben Chilwell are still recovering from their injury and will likely be back in action after the World Cup ends next month.
Wesley Fofana is also on the sidelines and he too will not be going to Qatar later this month. N’Golo Kante and Kepa Arrizabalaga are also missing the World Cup and will not be available for selection for the game later today.
