Mauricio Pochettino unsure if he has the backing of the Chelsea directors

Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure at Chelsea appears to be hanging by a thread, with recent comments hinting at a lack of support from the club’s co-sporting directors for next season. Following the team’s damaging 5-0 defeat to Arsenal and amidst ongoing discontent from fans, Pochettino’s future at the club has become increasingly uncertain.

Despite only being in charge for a single season, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager has faced significant scrutiny, particularly in light of Chelsea’s disappointing ninth-place position in the Premier League. With the team now out of contention in every domestic cup competition, their sole objective for the remainder of the season is to secure a European spot.

As speculation swirls regarding Pochettino’s future, the pressure mounts for Chelsea to deliver results on the pitch and salvage their season. Whether the Argentine will remain at the helm beyond this campaign remains to be seen, but his position appears increasingly precarious in the face of mounting challenges.

However, as things continue to fall apart for Pochettino, his recent remarks on his relationship with the club’s co-sporting directors further indicate whether he will remain at the club and during his recent press conference he clarified the situation and told the media via Metro.

Adding to the atmosphere of uncertainty surrounding his future, Pochettino has disclosed that he has ceased communication with Chelsea’s part owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. While Boehly and Eghbali had previously sent messages of support to Pochettino during a challenging period in February, the Argentine manager now reveals that his only interaction with the club’s hierarchy occurs through co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

However, when asked about his future, he gave a rather candid response.

“That’s a good question for them if you have the opportunity to ask them.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea job will be in danger for next season.

Pochettino has been unfairly singled out as the sole cause of Chelsea’s struggles this season. While the Argentine manager has a track record of nurturing young talent, the squad’s poor structuring, overseen by the board, has compounded the team’s challenges.

The prevalence of young players in the squad requires individualized training and development, which may not always align with Pochettino’s preferred system. Additionally, a high number of injuries further exacerbate the situation, limiting his ability to field his ideal lineup regularly.

As the current season draws to a close, it’s clear that significant changes lie ahead for Chelsea before the new campaign begins. Despite the club board’s efforts to appoint a manager capable of nurturing young talent, they have faced criticism, particularly regarding their recruitment strategy.
