Chelsea are ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Luis Campos

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are ahead of rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain football advisor Luis Campos. They are also acting on that interest by offering a huge deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are in a period of transition under the new American ownership. They sacked manager Thomas Tuchel last week, replacing him with Graham Potter. The club also has a vacant spot in the sporting director/advisor role as well. Co-owner Todd Boehly had to work as an interim sporting director in the summer.

The owners are now aiming to appoint a new sporting director ahead of the winter World Cup. Campos is one of the leading candidates to take up this role. As per French outlet Le Parisien (h/t Mirror), Chelsea are willing to pay €8m to get the Portuguese with an enormous money bank of €300m to build a squad suited to the Potter’s style of play.

The good news is that Campos can work with the Blues while simultaneously continuing his role as an advisor at PSG. His contract with the Parisian club only prevents him from working at more than three clubs. Currently, Celta Vigo is his second club after PSG. So, there is a slot to be filled.

Chelsea’s league rivals Manchester United were interested in the Portuguese back in 2018, but could not get the deal over the line. They have linked with him again in 2020, but nothing materialised.

Campos is one of the big names in European football, who has experience of working with European champions Real Madrid before.

More Chelsea News:

His inclusion at Chelsea would mean the club genuinely has one of the well-regarded sporting directors. What it does is enhance their standards in the transfer windows, knowing such a high-profile name is overseeing it.
