Transfer News: Chelsea defender Matt Miazga in talks to join FC Cincinnati

Chelsea centre-back Matt Miazga is in talks to join MLS side FC Cincinnati this summer. This is according to the Evening Standard, which claims that the talks are at an advanced stage.

Miazga joined the Blues from MLS side New York Red Bulls in 2016. Since then the player has spent different seasons on loan at different clubs. He has been on loan at Vitesse, Nantes, Reading, RSC Anderlecht and most recently at Deportivo Alaves.

The 27-year-old United States international managed to make only 11 league appearances for Alaves last season. He struggled to get minutes there as his side finished 20th in the league table and was relegated.

Chelsea fans will hardly remember the player. And one cannot even blame them. After all, the American centre-back managed to make only two appearances for the Blues during his six-year stay at the west London club. Now he could be headed back to his home country in hopes to play some more.

Miazga never really got going at Chelsea. There have always been world-class defenders ahead of him in the pecking order. He is nowhere near Thomas Tuchel’s plan for next season. The German tactician did not include him in the pre-season squad and he is very less likely to play for Chelsea again.

A return back to his homeland would be beneficial for all. The player can return home and get more playing time if he hopes to make the United States National team for the World Cup in November.

Matt Miazga played only two times for Chelsea in six-years.

A forgotten player, it will be better for him to seek new pastures. The report also adds that if the MLS move fails the player has interest from clubs in the Championship and Belgium. All in all, Miazga may not be a Chelsea player by the end of this transfer window.

As for the fans, they would have forgotten about him and this exit would not bother them even if it means we are selling another centre-back despite Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving.

Tuchel will hope that he can challenge for the title this season with the team that he has, but he would also be wise to reinforce the backline before the end of August. The Blues travel to Merseyside on Saturday to take on Everton in their opening match-day.
