Transfer News: Arsenal are interested in signing Chelsea defender Levi Colwill

According to GOAL (h/t Football.London), Arsenal are keeping tabs on talented young English centre-back Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer.

The Chelsea academy graduate has made heads turn this season with his performances at Huddersfield out on loan from the Blues. Highly rated, the centre-back starlet has absolutely proven his worth for the Terriers, proving to be an important cog in the promotion push.

Originally a centre-back also capable of playing out at left-back, the Cobham starlet has played 31 times for Huddersfield this season scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions. His versatility has come in handy for the Terriers on many occasions this season.

The 19-year-old has impressed one and all with his performances and Premier League clubs are said to be keen on taking the defender on loan. Arsenal and Leicester City have been credited with an interest but Chelsea apparently wants to keep Colwill in the ranks next season.

Cobham to the rescue?

Chelsea find themselves in a defensive pickle going into the summer and it seems like Cobham is likely to come to the rescue of the Blues.

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are set to leave the club in the summer whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is also said to be contemplating his future at the club. This will leave the club extremely understaffed at the centre-back region going into the next season.

It is no secret that the Blues will have to dip in the market for centre-backs to replace the outgoing players but if they chose to back Levi Colwill and give him a prominent role in the first team next season, one of their problems will be solved.

Colwill is just 19-years-old and is far from the finished product. He might have a mistake or two in him and the Stamford Bridge faithful will have to be patient with the Englishman and give him the time he requires to adapt to the top flight.

Levi Colwill offers Chelsea an internal solution. Whether Thomas Tuchel decides to take the gamble and depend on the youngster next season remains to be seen.
