Chelsea fans bid adieu as Tammy Abraham joins Roma

Chelsea have officially confirmed that Tammy Abraham has completed a move to AS Roma on a five-year deal (h/t Chelsea FC on twitter).

Roma will be shelling out €40m on this deal but in instalments. €5m will be paid further in add-ons. He will be earning around €4/5m and Chelsea have also added in a buyback clause of €80m. (h/t Fabrizio Romano)

An academy graduate through and through, Abraham had progressed through all the levels to make it at Chelsea. A tall lanky striker, he was loaned out to Bristol City, Swansea and then Aston Villa. It was after his spell at Villa that he was afforded a chance to impress for the first team in 2019 under Frank Lampard.

He would go on to be a favourite of Lampard during his season and a half in charge. The appointment of Thomas Tuchel saw him lose his place in the side. Even if he was fit, Tuchel hardly called on him to play and it was a common sight to see him lingering on the sidelines or not present at all.

His future was obviously going to come into question after the signing of Romelu Lukaku. However, Tammy is now a part of a three-way striker merry-go-round. Chelsea signed Lukaku from Inter who signed Edin Dzeko from Roma. Finally, Roma went after Tammy from Chelsea to complete a full circle.

At Roma, Tammy will be linking up with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho. He has also received the No. 9 jersey meaning that he is expected to play a big part for the side. Chelsea fans were a bit emotional as he was one of their own but wished him luck for his future.
