According to transfer news from The Sun, Jude Bellingham could be in line for a wage bump from Borussia Dortmund amid links to Chelsea. His £42,000-per-week wages could be doubled to £84,000 so as to fend off interest from the likes of Chelsea.
The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe currently. Having burst onto the scenes at Birmingham City last season, where he became a first-team regular just aged 16, the midfielder sealed a high-profile transfer to Dortmund in the summer last year.
Since moving to Germany, Bellingham has absolutely thrived, becoming a permanent fixture in the middle of the park for the Black and Yellows. To date, the teenage midfielder has featured 42 times across all competitions for Dortmund, scoring three goals and setting up four more.
On the back of his exceptional performances at club level, Bellingham broke into the England national team and has made two appearances for the Three Lions already, at the age of 17. With the English starlet developing at such a rapid pace, Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing the player back to England.
However, Dortmund also know that it would be a huge ask to keep him if a side like Chelsea come for him. Hence, they are looking to double his wage packet to £84,000-a-week. In all honesty, those are still premium wages for a player still 17 years old. Now that Dortmund are looking to take steps to stop Chelsea’s interest, this should come as a blow to Tuchel.
The report claims that Chelsea are thinking about bolstering their midfield unit. While former manager Frank Lampard saw Declan Rice as the man for the job, there is a general sense of feeling now that Bellingham could be a better signing with Tuchel at the helm.
Chelsea are likely to test Dortmund’s resolve again next season as they aim to add to their side under Tuchel. Bellingham is already a superstar at 17 and it is scary to think how much further he can develop in the next few years. Chelsea would want that to be at Stamford Bridge, no doubt.
