According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea are open to selling out of favour striker Tammy Abraham for £40m. The striker was again on the bench as the Blues managed to draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Tammy Abraham came off the bench in the dying minutes of the West Ham clash and it showed how far the academy graduate had fallen down the pecking order. It has become an all too familiar sight to see the academy graduate on the bench in recent weeks. It was his first appearance on the pitch in 2 months. However, he would not even get those few minutes against Real Madrid.
Abraham broke into the first-team last season under Frank Lampard and was a vital part of the side that finished fourth. However, the England international has slipped down the order after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and Timo Werner. The likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been preferred ahead of the academy graduate.
Now it has been reported that the Blues are willing to let go of the striker if they receive a bid of £40m. It has also been said that the club are keen to get Olivier Giroud off their books. Removing the strikers would free up a chunk of the wages and for good reason. Chelsea plan on going all out for Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku and they want to free up funds as well as space in the squad.
There is obviously no shortage of suitors for the English striker as Leicester City and Aston Villa have shown interest. Now with Chelsea eager to let the player go, it would be in Tammy’s best interests to move to a club where he can get game time. While £40m might be too much for a striker still honing his craft, Tammy has shown that he has the potential to lead the line for a Premier League side if given the chance.
