Thomas Tuchel considered the Chelsea job too good to turn down

Speaking to the club’s official site, Thomas Tuchel has opened up on taking the Chelsea hot seat.

The 47-year-old took the reins on Tuesday after the club sacked Frank Lampard. He was directly thrust into the line of fire as the Blues took on Wolverhampton Wanderers a day after his appointment.

An experienced manager, Tuchel was sacked by PSG just a month ago. He now has the opportunity to resurrect his reputation while also rekindle the fortunes of an underachieving Chelsea side.

“I felt this was a chance I could not let go away.”

Tuchel has described the offer from Chelsea as a life-altering moment. The prospect of reviving a giant such as Chelsea would be a challenge worthy of his standing.

“It’s hard to explain. My life was turned upside down in the past three days or so.”

The German’s support staff also share in his sentiments. They too believe the opportunity to manage at the Bridge was too good to turn down.

“We could not miss this opportunity to be part of this club and to be part of the Chelsea family. To work with this squad and compete in the toughest league in the Premier League and of course the Champions League is something we are excited to take on.”

Tuchel did not waste any time getting down to work. He took over the club on Tuesday before conducting his first training session later in the day.

“I’m super happy to be here and really excited to get to work.”

Armed with just a basic idea, he put together his first-team as Chelsea took on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday. While the match may have ended 0-0, there was much to be glad about.

Unlike Lampard, Tuchel is an accomplished manager who has already managed at the top level. The German should be able to handle the issues at Chelsea and get us back to what matters – winning trophies.

There is still a long way to go and Tuchel appears to be ready to take on the challenge. At a club where success means everything, he will be put to the test.
