According to the Metro, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has promoted five youngsters to first-team training ahead of the FA Cup third-round clash this weekend.
The Blues take on League Two side, Morecambe. The game was originally in doubt following a Covid-19 outbreak in the Shrimps camp. However, the game is now expected to go ahead.
Chelsea go into the match on the back of one win in six Premier League games. The game provides an opportunity for the Blues to get back to winning ways.
Tino Anjorin, Lewis Bate, Henry Lawrence and Tino Livramento have all been training with the first-team since last week. Meanwhile, another youngster Jude Soonsup-Bell also joined in on Wednesday.
While it remains to be seen if any of them will indeed start the match on Sunday, it will not be a surprise if any of them make it to the bench.
It could turn into a day to remember for Soonsup-Bell, who turns 17 on the day of the match. Debuting for Chelsea is a dream come true for many young prospects. The teenager just might do so on his special day.
The youngster is coming off the back of scoring four goals in a single game for the Chelsea Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup. He achieved the feat against Barnsley in November and is the first Chelsea player in 59 years to do so.
Of the youngsters mentioned above, only Anjorin has represented the club at the senior level before. The 19-year-old has so far won three caps for Frank Lampard’s side.
Lampard showed last season that he is not averse to playing youth when needed. While it is unlikely that we will see all five players feature, a couple of them could see action come Sunday.
