Frank Lampard backs Chelsea duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner to come good

Chelsea raided the Bundesliga in the summer to bring in Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

The German internationals were amongst the best young talents on the continent and were coming off impressive personal campaigns. Their signings generated much excitement amongst fans going into the season.

It is, however, fair to say that they have not yet excelled or set the field alight with their performances.

Whilst Werner has impressed, his inability to find the back of the net has negated much of his good work off the ball. The 24-year-old has now gone nine games without a goal for the club.

Havertz meanwhile has struggled to impose himself on a consistent basis. His hat-trick in the Carabao Cup and other individual moments have shown there is much potential yet to be unlocked in the midfielder.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Frank Lampard is under no doubt that his two German aces will come good. The Blues boss believes being diagnosed with Covid hampered Havertz’s progress. The player is now slowly but surely getting back to his best.

“It’s important that we remain patient in the short term, but Kai is a huge talent.”

Lampard also went on to add that Werner is also coming along nicely and is working hard to rediscover his lost touch. He believes the striker will open the floodgates once he gets the monkey off his back.

“He’s getting into positions very regularly and I feel that once he gets a goal or two, we’ll see many more from him.”

With a busy schedule coming up, the Blues will need their best players to step up and be counted.

Chelsea have the quality to launch a title challenge. However, unless our best players can perform consistently, we will find it difficult to dethrone Liverpool.
